I painted this over the weekend after looking at a reference and inspiration in a catalog that I picked up in 1985 when I visited the Bernardino Lanino (1512-1582) exhibit in Vercelli, Italy. I was studying art at SACI in Florence at the time, during a semester abroad, through my Pratt Institute program in NYC. The reference is a Bernardino Lanino aquarello titled: Due teste di angeli. The reference I looked at was a black and white monotone...so I am uncertain what colors are in the original. I found the chiaroscuro combined with the soft style and the misty brush work a natural style for me that continues to inspire.
